Project activities will be on-going from January, 2007-December, 2008. Activities are listed below. Please check here often for updates regarding these activities.
1.) Education/Assessment: We will institute educational materials and assessment tools for Nebraska physicians in order to self-evaluate their practices for health information technology.
2.) Town Hall Meetings/Hands-On Work Sessions: We will conduct a series of town hall meetings to improve the standard of knowledge pertaining to adoption of health information technologies, including but not limited to electronic medical records and ePrescribing. Regional town hall meetings will be scheduled to reach every practice in the state, including frontier areas, and telehealth will be used to ensure that any practice that has interest in attending can easily do so with the undue burden of time and travel. During these meetings and in subsequent meetings, participants will be able to take part in hands-on work sessions that will provide tools to use immediately.
By participating in these meetings, physicians and other members of their staff will be able to:
• Understand the role of a needs assessment and workflow analysis prior to adoption of an EHR;
• Identify the factors affecting readiness and how to address these;
• Define the business process changes that EHR, ePrescribing and patient safety systems require;
• Utilize the tools provided effectively to assess their current business processes and prepare their business for adoption of EHR.
3.) Change Management Tool: We will develop a change management tool integrating the following areas: practice management software, migration path and work redesign. The tool is designed to standardize and simplify the workflow and needs assessment process as well as the readiness evaluation done internally by NE physician practice participants.
4.) EHRNebraska Vendor Selection and Vendor Fair: At the end of 2008, a Technology Symposium will be conducted to provide an overview of the health information technologies available for physician offices. This symposium will also provide the opportunity for participants to learn more about the project’s outcomes.
